Iliana graduated from the University of Bath with a MEng in Electronic and Communications Engineering. She also obtained sponsorship from National Grid and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) for her PhD on developing a system for using antennas. She then moved to the University of Strathclyde as a research fellow where in 2007 she spun-out the research into Elimpus Ltd. In 2010 she went to work the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), in the USA. She came back as Director of the Power Networks Demonstration Centre at Strathclyde. Today, she heads Innovation at National Grid Electricity Transmission, focusing on delivering the integrated, decarbonised energy system present and future societies need to grow and succeed.
